About Me

Food and creativity has a always been a big part of my life and have always gone hand in hand from the time I was allowed to use the oven as a child. I couldn’t wait for the holidays where I’d spend most days perfecting a sponge or getting the right layout of fruit to decorate a pavlova, my grandmother even had an old cake decorating book from the 50’s that I used to pour over. I loved looking through cookery books and would always flip to the end to view the desserts…instead of devouring novels I’d devour cookery books. I remember taking an elective at high school called “food flair” and it really got me thinking about food preparation and styling and it was in that class that we all had to make and decorate our first children’s themed birthday cake. I remember constructing a boat out of cake and covering it with buttercream and lollies which I got a fantastic mark for and was instantly hooked. My study in cookery ended there however and I never continued with the subject at school as I was born an Artist and so I followed my whimsical dreams of being an Artist onto studying Fine Arts at uni and immersing myself into the field of being an Artist. A little more about my Art here

As a freelance Artist, it also gave me the flexibility to teach and I gave private Art classes to children and adults that wanted to perfect their skills. Teaching came easily to me and I loved seeing students create works which they were proud of and that their friends and families were also impressed with. All throughout this time I was also working on and off in the disability sector and got to teach Art to some of the disabled adults I was working with and somehow cake decorating crept into the classes. Since I’d been diligently making cakes for my kids, friends and family I felt confident enough to start teaching some of the tricks and skills that I’d picked up along the way through trial and effort. As I was working with a disability group through Sydney Community college, word got out about the cake decorating classes and I was asked if I could teach mainstream classes.

From there I created different classes that covered a range of differing techniques from cupcakes to drip cakes and a bit of everything in between. My aim was to condense the classes enough so people could learn a range of skills that would give them the confidence to create something wonderful for their friends and family. I always ensure that everyone walks away from my classes feeling a sense of achievement and an amazement of the cake that they have just created. It was also important that my classes were based around the use of minimal tools and equipment, I am a firm believer in using things that one would already have in their kitchen and that creating a masterpiece shouldn’t have to cost a small fortune.

I love to teach and connect with people of all ages and walks of life and my classes reflect just that…a class that feels inclusive and welcoming where people can come together to create and connect with one another. Everyone has the ability to create a cake worthy of any celebration and I aim to give people the fundamental skills of cake decorating that will hopefully inspire them to make and create their own cakes at home.
